Da das Wetter nächste Woche nicht besser werden sollte und ein großes Tiefdruckgebiet mit ordentlich Wind im Anmarsch war, hatte ich nun doch schon früher als geplant Kurs auf die Algarve genommen.

Bereits beim Ablegen war eine frische Brise von 5-6 Bft. aufgekommen. Im weitläufigen Hafenbecken wurde dann das Großsegel gesetzt und gleich mit einem Reff für die anstehende Nachtfahrt versehen. Danach der Autopilot aktiviert und auf dem Vorschiff das Kuttersegel gesetzt. Dabei bemerkte ich leider nicht sofort, daß der Autopilot sich aus bis jetzt nicht nachvollziehbaren Gründen wieder abgeschaltet hatte und das Schiff aus dem Kurs lief. Es erfolgte mal wieder eine Patenthalse mit der Folge, daß der Großschotblock mit voller Wucht den Kompass traf und die Abdeckung samt Gehäusefuß zerstörte. Das ging ja gut los !

Zum Glück war das der einzige Flurschaden während der doch sehr anspruchsvollen Überfahrt. Während der Nacht nahmen Wind und Welle weiter zu und trotz kleinster Besegelung war ich viel zu früh am Cabo de São Vicente, dem südwestlichen Punkt des europäischen Festlandes. Schade, denn so konnte ich den imposanten Blick auf das Kap, das ich bereits von der Landseite her kannte, nicht genießen. Es hatte aber auch seinen Vorteil, da ich nun kurz vor Hochwasser und ohne viel Strömung in den Kanal von Lagos einlaufen konnte. Mit Passieren der nächsten Landzunge, der Ponta de Sagres, war urplötzlich der ständige NW Schwell vorbei und die letzten 15 NM wurden ein Genußsegeln vom Feinsten.

In Lagos am Begrüßungspontoon vor der Brücke festgemacht und die Formalitäten erledigt. Einen schönen Liegeplatz bekommen. Der bereits am Fingersteg wartende Marinero war keine große Hilfe beim Anlegen. Das war auch nicht notwendig, da ausreichend Platz und keine Strömung waren und der Wind direkt von vorn kam.

Glücklich und etwas müde in Lagos angekommen. Mal sehen, wie es weiter geht ?

Since the weather should not get better next week and a big depression with neat wind was approaching, I had already set course for the Algarve earlier than planned.

Already at the departure was a fresh breeze of 5-6 Bft. emerged. In the extensive harbor basin, the mainsail was set and immediately provided with a reef for the upcoming night drive. Then the autopilot activated and set the cutter sail on the foredeck. Unfortunately, I did not immediately notice that the autopilot had switched off again for reasons that were not yet comprehensible and that the ship was out of course. It was again a patent neck, with the result that the mainsheet block met with full force the compass and destroyed the cover, including housing foot. That went well!

Luckily that was the only damage to the ground during the very demanding crossing. During the night, wind and wave continued to increase and, despite the smallest sails, I was far too early at the Cabo de São Vicente, the southwestern point of mainland Europe. Too bad, because I could not enjoy the imposing view of the cape, which I already knew from the land side. But it also had its advantage, since I was able to enter the channel of Lagos shortly before high water and without much flow. With the passing of the next promontory, the Ponta de Sagres, suddenly the permanent NW Schwell was over and the last 15 NM became a pleasure sailing at its best.

Moored in Lagos at the welcome pontoon in front of the bridge and the formalities done. Get a nice mooring. The Marinero, who was already waiting at the finger bridge, was not much help in mooring. That was not necessary, because there was enough space and no current and the wind came straight from the front.

Happy and a little tired arrived in Lagos. Lets see how it goes on ?
